The Best Place To See Rainbow is Hawaii
Our nature provides us variety of things like the blue sky, mountains, valleys, running rivers, attractive birds, animals, beautiful flowers, and much more.
But the rainbow is one of the most beautiful phenomena in nature. Seeing a rainbow is always a wonderful thing. The attractive colors of the rainbow give a nice feeling and make you happy. It also lifts our spirits high.
How do rainbows form?
To make a vibrant iridescent rainbow, two ingredients are needed: water and light. In Hawaii, those two components are not in short supply. The islands' abundance of sunlight and water, combined with their geographical location, make rainbows a common occurrence on the islands. Because of their ubiquity, the bands of light are deeply intertwined in Hawaiian culture, reports the Deccan Herald.
Rainbows form their signature colors through atmospheric optical effects when raindrops refract and reflect light, just like a prism does. The raindrop bends the waves of light as they enter the droplet, where they reflect once inside, and then refract again upon exit. Various colors are seen in a rainbow because each color wavelength refracts at different angles, and when they do, they are seen as separate bands of color in the rainbow, reports Lauren J. Young for Science Friday. When we view a rainbow on the Earth's surface, we are only seeing half of it at a time. When soaring high above a rainbow in an aircraft, sometimes you can see a rainbow in its entirety as a 360-degree ring of color, Science Friday reports.
In Hawaiian folklore, rainbows symbolize "the veil between the realms of the gods and the realms of the humans," M. Puakea Nogelmeier, professor emeritus of Hawaiian language at the University of Hawaii, tells Science Friday.
Why does Hawaii have so many rainbows?
The combination of constant cloud coverage, trade winds, mountainous terrain, and clean air all contribute to rainbow sightings in the islands of Hawaii. The mountain tops force the trade winds coming from the ocean to rise and cool. This creates rain showers and holes in the clouds where the sun can enter. Hawaii is known for its very clean marine air, and clean atmosphere because we are far from pollution. The clean air makes for strong sunshine, and that strong sun helps produce a vibrant rainbow.
Which time is best to visit?
The wintertime or rainy season is the best time to sight rainbows. We will see rainbows almost every day in Hawaii. The best time to spot them is early morning or evening when the sun is low and common rain showers occur.
